The MacGregor room is named after Reverend James MacGregor (1759-1830). He preached his first sermon in English and Gaelic and began his fruitiful and apostolic gospel ministry of forty-four years. On September 17, 1786 he organized the congregation that later became James Church and afterwards, First Presbyterian Church, in New Glasgow where he ministered until his death. He also made numerous and extended pioneer missionary journeys to almost all parts of the maritimes of the Presbyterian Church of Canada.
